Acts 9:1,2 – But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. 

Here is the man that eventually became Paul, the greatest missionary ever, a man who became on fire for the Lord and led thousands to Christ. The man who wrote almost half of the New Testament and still influences people today almost two thousand years later, was here wanting to bring Christians, men and women, to the high priest to be tried and punished, possibly to be put to  death.

I’ve heard Christians say that Saul was an evil man to persecute the Christians, but he was not evil at all. In fact, he was a very godly man, a faithful Jew who loved and served God to the best of his ability. He just needed Jesus to get hold of his heart to convince him that what he needed was to come to the knowledge that Jesus was the resurrected Messiah.  He needed a dose of the Holy Ghost, as the Pentecostals say, to set him straight.

Jesus, the risen Christ, appeared to him and blinded him for a time, in order to get his full attention. Jesus spoke to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” Saul said, “Who are you?”  

“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise, and enter into the city and you will be told what you need to do.”

Saul was without sight for three days and did not eat nor drink. He went to see Ananias, as the Lord told him to do in another vision.  Ananias had received his own vision from the Lord and was told to lay hands on Saul so he could get his sight back and receive the Holy Spirit.

So after Saul received his sight back and was filled with the Holy Spirit he was never the same.  He became possibly the greatest soul winner of all time.   

So, my message to you today is this.  If accepting Jesus and being filled with the Holy Spirit can change a man like Saul, later known as Paul, think what he can do for you.

Perhaps you have been blind to the truth about Christ.  Perhaps you have been a bad sinner, or maybe just a misguided good person, either way you need Jesus.

So here is your invitation.  Are you willing to let Christ change you?   If so, who knows what the Lord will do with your life.

Give him a chance.  I promise you won’t regret it.
